Class groups and activities undertaken

Our Centre provides a service to a number of deprived groups from the local community. We categorise and service these groups as follows:

  1. Students who have attended government-affiliated Tibetan schools in the past and are now based in the community and want to continue their studies. We provide a demanding programme for these students.
    • Advanced class (comprehension, grammar, pronunciation, listening and writing activities).
    • Conversation/topic classes (native speakers of English interact with the students and discuss topics ranging from local issues to global concerns).
    • TOEFL class (Test of English as a Foreign Language & ENDASH; an examination required by all American Universities before admitting non-native English speakers).
  2. 1. Students who have recently arrived and are either too old or have commitments that prevent them from taking up a permanent place in the existing school system. This group includes mothers and fathers, workers, monks, nuns and those excluded from local schools. We provide an inclusive program for these students.
    • ABC classes for the illiterate and the most recently arrived students.
    • Beginner classes We have two classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. This enables most of our students who are at a disadvantage to attend at least one of our classes. Due to the huge demand for this program, we need two classes at this level.
    • Intermediate classes A program intended to bridge the gap between this and the advanced schedule above.
