How We Started
A Tibetan teacher, Lama Kyap, founded our school,
the Multi-Education Centre (MEC),
Save Exiled Tibetan Scholars Association (SETSA),
in 1996, with the help of friends and colleagues in the Tibetan Community.
The first open class of MEC was set up in November 1996.
It has been functioning successfully due to grants provided by
The Milarepa Fund in 1996, as well as from The Danish
Tibetan Cultural Society in 1997. More recently we have
supported by Swedish Tibet Charity and Save Tibet Austria
that support Tibetans in their quest to preserve Tibetan culture
and contribute to the future of Tibetan education.
The open classes at MEC offer language courses in English, Tibetan,
Hindi and Chinese, and are free of cost. We are also teaching Hindi and
Tibetan Language for English speakers. We have at the moment over
one hundred students between the ages of 18 and 40. Most are recent
arrivals from Tibet.
