How You Can Help

Dear Friends,

My name is Jigme Tenzin. I am the director of the Multi-Education Centre in McLeod Ganj, Dharamsala. I am a social worker and I have been working in the voluntary sector since 2000, in particular working towards the success of education programmes in the Tibetan community in exile.

The Multi-Education Centre is a non-profit organisation founded to provide free, quality education to recent arrivals from Tibet and other members of the surrounding community. As you may know, there is a large influx of Tibetan refugees into India and more specifically to the McLeod Ganj area. Thousands flee to India to escape the rule of the Chinese government and many come here to learn languages and be close to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The Multi-Education Centre (MEC) provides volunteer teachers for those refugees to support their education with free language classes in their homes, English, Tibetan and French. We have a steady stream of students attending these classes, often numbering more than 100. We are starting a hardship fund to support very needy people in emergencies and are writing to you because we are in need of your help. We have a limited amount of donations and our funds are running short.

We would also like to expand our education programmes. We would like to be considered for a donation or sponsorship from you. Help is needed in the form of financial donations, teachers, equipment, schoolbooks, paper and pens. A small donation can go a long way to help start a class or provide a group of students with the textbooks they need for their studies.

Thank you for your time and attention. We would appreciate your support!
